Law School Neighbor Cited as Top 10 Restaurateur on Wheels

August 31, 2011

La Dominique Creperie, a moveable French feast that is regularly parked outside the law school, has been named by USA Today and ABC News as one of the 10 best food trucks in the nation.

The creperie captured the attention of James Cunningham, host of the Cooking Channel program, Eat Street, who named it one of the nation’s best eateries on wheels and gave a special callout to the strawberry-banana-Nutella crepe.

For four years, La Dominique has been a beacon to hungry students, faculty and staff, dispensing individually crafted sweet and savory crepes within a few yards of the law school’s entrance on Market Street near 33rd.

Owner Zbigniew Chojnacki labors over each crepe like a work of art, which is not so surprising, since he is an accomplished sculptor whose pieces appear at venues like the Smithsonian’s Renwick Gallery. The ingredients are organic, the menu eclectic, the customers patient. They understand that La Dominique, like the wheels of justice, moves slowly.

Chojnacki admits to a special fondness for his law school customers, including students who have graduated.

“I miss the ones who’ve left,” he said. “I hope they’ll stop back.”
